CANCER CARE
Between 1979 and 1995 the Chester Clinic was home to The Chester Cancer Care Centre, a registered charity
providing extra support and advice for patients diagnosed with cancer. As a result of this our Clinic director
gained a lot of experience in the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for helping cancer patients.
Charles has lectured widely in the UK and abroad on this subject.
Responsible practitioners do not claim that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can cure cancer,
that would be both inappropriate and illegal. Nevertheless there is much we can do to help patients with this diagnosis by:
- - relieving the symptoms of cancer, such as pain
- - counteracting the adverse effects of conventional treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery
- - strengthening resistance so then you have more resources to fight cancer
Again, there is a fair amount of research evidence to support the value of acupuncture and Chinese medicine
in helping patients with cancer. Many of the herbs we use have been researched for their benefit and some
have even been shown to inhibit cancer cells. Apart form many millions spent on pharmacological and clinical
research in China, one of the biggest US cancer research institutes (the Slone-Kettering Foundation) have been
particularly active in demonstrating the anti-cancer effects of some Chinese herbs.
